Pet BMI Calculator
Check if your pet is underweight, overweight, or at an ideal body condition. Uses the veterinary Body Condition Score system.
Body Condition Score (BCS) Guide
| Score | Condition | Signs |
|---|---|---|
| 1-3 | Underweight | Ribs and bones easily visible, little muscle mass |
| 4 | Slightly thin | Ribs easily felt, visible waist and tuck |
| 5 | Ideal | Ribs felt with slight pressure, defined waist |
| 6-7 | Overweight | Ribs hard to feel, waist barely visible |
| 8-9 | Obese | Cannot feel ribs, no waist, fat deposits |
Why is pet obesity dangerous?
Overweight pets face higher risks of diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, breathing problems, and reduced lifespan (up to 2 years shorter). Over 50% of dogs and 60% of cats are overweight.
How do I assess my pet's body condition at home?
Run your hands along their sides - you should feel ribs without pressing hard. View from above - there should be a visible waist behind the ribs. From the side - the belly should tuck up slightly.
