Dogs age rapidly in their first two years (a 1-year-old dog is roughly equivalent to a 15-year-old human). After that, aging slows down but varies by size — small dogs age more slowly than giant breeds. Cats mature quickly in the first 2 years then age about 4 human years per cat year.
