Why Wheel Size Matters
A wheel that is too small forces your hamster to arch their back, causing spinal damage over time. The back should be straight or slightly curved inward while running. When in doubt, go bigger.

What type of wheel is safest?
Solid surface only - NEVER wire/mesh wheels (cause bumblefoot). Best options: solid plastic wheels, cork-lined wheels, or wooden wheels. Avoid saucer wheels as primary exercise (good as supplement). The wheel should be silent or near-silent since hamsters are nocturnal.
