Why are pet store cages too small?
Nearly ALL pet store cages sold for guinea pigs are too small. The most common cage (~2 sq ft) is about 1/5 the minimum needed. C&C (cubes and coroplast) cages are the gold standard: affordable, customizable, and appropriately sized.
Do guinea pigs need to live in pairs?
Yes - guinea pigs are highly social herd animals. A lone guinea pig will be lonely, depressed, and may develop behavioral issues. In Switzerland, it is actually illegal to keep only one. Same-sex pairs or neutered mixed pairs work best.
